Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is there a commuter registration rate and may I commute to the workshop?

A. You certainly may commute to the workshop if you would like, but unfortunately we cannot offer a discounted rate for commuters.  The fee Menucha charges us is based on a per-person rate for the use of their facilities for classroom space, meals and housing combined, so we cannot provide a lower commuter registration fee if you do not require housing or meals.

Q. What’s the deal with the meals?

A. Meals are served family style and there needs to be one volunteer server per table to assist with pouring drinks, delivering hot dishes to the table and bussing dishes afterwards.  We strongly urge each participant to be a server for at least one meal during the retreat. In earlier years, because some students did not volunteer, an unequal burden fell to others. Be fair, it’s fun and your table will appreciate you. At each meal, find the next meal’s volunteer. See and for more information about dining at CGEMR.

Q. How do I request housing in Creevey Commons?

A. Rooms in Creevey Commons offer greater privacy (see for a description of housing choices). Each of the 12 Creevey rooms can house one, two or three  people.  The cost of a Creevey room is $315 plus the registration fee. If one person reserves a Creevey room, it costs $315 for that person; if two people are in the room, it is $157 per person; three people, $105 per person. If you reserve a Creevey room you need to specify who will be your roommates on the registration form.  See for details on tuition and fees.

Q. What are the ways I can save on costs?

A. Here are some ways you can shave significant dollars off the CGEMR cost to you. (1) Register before Dec. 1 to receive the Early Bird rate, a discount of $100. (2) Take an upper bunk in Wright Hall and save $30. (3) Chop $10 off the registration fee if you are a PRS or an ARS member.

Q. What is the policy if I have to cancel?

A.  Cancellation prior to Feb. 20th, 2018: 100% refund, as long as participant is replaced from the waiting list AND the replacement pays for the same housing option. If no replacement is found, all but $50 administration fee is refunded.
Cancellation on or after Feb. 20th, 2018: No refund, even if a replacement is found. This is in part due to time and effort required to find a replacement on short notice and place specific participants in appropriate classes and housing options.

Q.  May I bring along a non-participating spouse or significant other?

A.  Such a nice idea, but it depends.  We have such limited space and high demand for rooms in Creevey Commons that we must limit the number of non-participants.  Please find out in advance from the registration coordinator if we can accommodate your partner.  They would be responsible for cost of the meals for the weekend, and the Creevey room.
