Hello friends…we will gather once again at St. David of Wales on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm for some lovely ensemble music playing. St. David’s is located at 2800 SE Harrison in Portland. There is plenty of parking.
Now, what shall we play. We will begin the session with a group warm up using the La Danserye collection by Tielman Susato. We are going to keep looking at some of the pieces I introduced back in October of 2023. We have some stunning tunes by Salomone Rossi (c.1570 – 1630) that we need to discover together. He is one of my absolute favorite pre-Baroque composers of all time. His music is rich and full of life.
Andrea Gabrieli and Giaches de Wert will round out the session with tunes set to the epic poem, Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto. Of course we will only be looking at a few stanzas of the 34,000 stanzas in the whole poem!
All music can be found below. I will also have a printer at the session in case you cannot print out the music needed. We also have extra copies of the Susato book for those needing them.
I hope you take some time out of your Sunday to join us. We always have a good time. Email me if you have questions! Happy New Year!
