Hello, my music friends…as we embark on the 2025/26 season for the Portland Recorder Society, I am excited to share music with all of you. The Board has been working hard over the summer and making plans for an active season of music.
We continue our season on Sunday, October 12, 2025 and then we will dive into music. My plan is to send much of the music we will be working on this year right at the beginning of the season.
It will always be available on our website. This year we will be focusing on the music of Ludwig Senfl, a Swiss composer and the most famous pupil of Heinrich Issac. Senfl was the music director to the court of Maximillan I. Ever since hearing the CD, Ludwig Senfl: Lieder, Motets, Instrumental Works from the Farallon Quartet, I have loved this music, and it is especially lovely on recorders.
Of course, our time together will not be just about Ludwig Senfl (but could be!), I will be sprinkling some contemporary recorder music, such as “A Day in the Park” by LaNue Davenport, and other treasures yet to be determined.
We have a full year planned with guest presenters, a full-on English Country dance and the revival of our pre-COVID Members’ Cabaret. It is the most ambitious year yet and we are very exciting to have all of you come out to play and share.
We meet at St. David of Wales: 2800 SE Harrison, in Portland. There is plenty of parking in the lot. Our sessions run from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. The music is posted on our website. Please bring a music stand, a stand light (strongly suggested), your instruments, and all your talents.
All levels are welcome. We are an encouraging and delightful community of recorder players. Bring a friend! Let me know if you have any questions!
All the best, Laura Kuhlman
