How to Borrow a Recorder
Portland Recorder Society Instrument Library Policy
As a member of the PRS, you can borrow an instrument from our lending library and use it
for one month free of charge. Here’s how it works:
- The PRS website has a list of instruments available to borrow (above)
- You can reserve an instrument by sending an email to
prs@portlandrecordersociety.org. Indicate the instrument you wish to borrow. You
will get a reply that either the instrument is available for you at the next playing
session, or that it has already been reserved for that month. - If you have not reserved an instrument in advance, you may be able to borrow one
anyway at the PRS playing session, however, we may not have all the available
(unreserved) instruments with us at the playing session. - Unless other arrangements are made in advance, instruments can be borrowed for
one month at a time. - Instruments can be picked up at the end of a monthly PRS playing session from our
instrument librarian. If another PRS member did not already have the instrument
you are interested in during the previous month, it may be available at the beginning
of the playing session rather than the end. - Instruments must be returned at the end of the playing session the following month.
Care of the instrument in while in your possession: - Brush your teeth before playing the instrument, and please do not eat, drink or
especially smoke while playing the instrument. - If someone in your home smokes, please keep the instrument in a smoke-free
environment. - Do not wear lipstick when playing the instrument
- Please do not use a fluPy swab to dry out the instrument after playing (it leaves bits
inside the instrument). Just leave it to air out outside the case for a few hours after
playing. - Do not put the instrument back in the case while wet immediately after playing.
- Store the instrument in the case if one was provided when not in use.
- Do not attempt to make any adjustments or repairs to the instrument
- Do not leave the instrument in a hot car
