Hello friends, several weeks ago, the Portland Recorder Society sent out a survey asking you questions about the value of the organization and what PRS means to you. We were very pleased with the responses that we received and will take all the input we can to make PRS stronger and continue to provide value for our community.
From the survey, we learned that our members want in-person session. We are happy to announce we will continue monthly in-person playing session for the 2023-24 calendar. This year we are going to try something a little different. We will meet once a month, on the second Sunday of each month, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm from October 8th, 2023 to May 2024. A full schedule is posted on our website. Each session we will be working on new pieces but also have a collection of tunes that we will work on from month to month. Our goal will be to present an informal concert in May 2024 for friends and family to showcase the tunes we worked on throughout the year.
At each playing session, we will also give members a chance to perform. Not all the players in the group must be members of PRS. Each group will be allowed a 5-minute slot with no more than 3 groups performing per session. Each group will need to sign up with me through email. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Our opening session will be Sunday, Oct 8 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at St David of Wales Church. The address is 2800 SE Harrison in Portland and there is plenty of parking. Music will be posted on our website for download but also available at the playing session. There will be music for all levels of playing. All levels of playing ability are welcome. All instruments, yep, even a melodica are welcome to join us.
If you have the Susato Danserye book (purple cover from London Pro Musica), please bring with you to the session. Copies will also be available at the session. Since we will be using the Susato book throughout the year, you may also purchase a copy for $10. It is a great collection for any library!
I am very excited about this next season for the Portland Recorder Society. I look forward to making and discovering music together.
