“Counterpoint of the Animals: The Music of Banchieri and the Madrigal Comedy,” directed by Gayle and Phil Neuman.

Gayle and Phil Neuman lead the early music ensemble classes at the Community Music Center on Mondays, and the online Consort Classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Saturdays. They direct the Oregon Renaissance Band and the Fireside Social Orchestra, and have played under the baton of Christopher Hogwood, Nicholas McGegan, Monica Huggett, JoAnn Falletta. They teach at various workshops in the USA and codirect the annual Early Music Guild of Oregon Workshop in the fall, as well as the Switzerland Workshop in Steckborn, Switzerland.
The Neumans have performed at the Smithsonian Institution, The Getty Center, Cleveland Museum of Art, Rice University, Washington University, University of Missouri at Columbia, Amman Conservatory in Jordan, the Bodrum Crusader Castle Archeological Museum in Turkey, and at ancient theater sites in Epidaurus, Delphi, and Rhodes. They are members of The Trail Band, and have performed with the Handel & Haydn Society Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Magnificat, and Cappella Romana. They appear as themselves in the movie, “Buddymoon,” and can be heard on the original soundtrack of the 2016 movie “Ben-Hur.” Their ancient Greek music can be heard on TED Talk “Music and Emotion through Time” with Michael Tilson Thomas.
